About your counsellor

Hello, my name is Helen Campbell and I am an integrative counsellor, trained and specialising in working with children and young people. This means that I use a variety of therapeutic approaches including creative, play, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), systemic and person centred therapies. I don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy – each child or young person is unique with their own particular concerns or issues. Because of this, I use the therapeutic approach that best suits the young person and the concerns that they bring to counselling.

Why children and young people?

Working with children and young people is challenging and rewarding, requiring specialist knowledge around child development, safeguarding and different therapeutic approaches.

Counselling young people doesn’t just mean talking: it may also involve mindfulness, relaxation techniques, play, music, art and a whole variety of creative tools.

I have worked with children and young people for much of my career; firstly in education as a primary school teacher, deputy headteacher and headteacher. After taking a break from education, I experienced my own personal family tragedy which caused me to rethink how I wanted to work, as well as what I wanted from life.

As a result, I decided to do something that really engaged me and retrained as a children’s and young people’s counsellor. It’s a decision that I have never regretted. It’s challenging work but hugely satisfying and rewarding.

Relevant experience

We all know that each child or young person is unique with their own particular concerns, issues and temperament and I have had a lifetime’s experience learning how to connect with our young individuals.

I worked as a school counsellor for Relate prior to setting up in practice at Archway Health and Wellbeing, and have experience working with a range of issues including:

  • Bereavement
  • Self-harm
  • Anxiety
  • Anger
  • Depression
  • Abuse
  • Eating disorders
  • OCD
  • Long Covid
  • Trauma
  • Family breakdown
  • Neurodiversity e.g. autism, ADHD, dyslexia

I see clients at Archway Health and Wellbeing in Market Harborough on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I offer a free 20 minute consultation for the child/young person and responsible adult (if relevant). The aim of this free consultation is for both client and counsellor to decide if they are a good fit and to understand a little more about what counselling involves.
